My passion for words started when I was very young. According to my dad I was reading by the age of 3, and just to prove I hadn’t memorized my books, he used to make me read them aloud to him backwards. As a child I read everything I could get my hands on, and subsequently developed a love for anything related to words – grammar, spelling, languages, handwriting… well, you get the picture.

Reading comprehension was always one of my strengths, and that skill later helped me power through the seemingly endless reading assignments that epitomize college. After 4 years at university (including a 6-month study abroad program in Spain where I fell in love with travelling, European history, and Mediterranean food), I was ready to take the next step in expanding my knowledge of the written word.

I entered graduate school and received a Master’s Degree in English, specializing in Renaissance British Literature (Shakespeare’s era). Again, strong reading comprehension ability was essential as I waded through the complex vocabulary that typifies the Elizabethan period. On several occasions I remember looking at the stacks of library books I was researching and thinking, “If I can get through this stuff, I can read and write about anything!” Although tedious at times, the research and writing skills I gained were invaluable, and started me on a path towards the realization of my academic and professional goals.

Several years experience working for a medical clinic, at which I had the opportunity to learn the business from the ground up, eventually managing the front office. I trained and developed several incoming office staff members on various aspects of the business. I wrote and edited the Employee Manual, created several other innovative office forms to increase overall efficiency in the practice, and translated medical forms and patient questionnaires into Spanish to facilitate communication with Spanish-speaking patients.

Ad Agency

Experience managing an individual account base of print and online mediums worth over $2 million, comprised of a diverse portfolio of clients, from Movers to Dentists to Employment Agencies to Ice Making Equipment Distributors. There I built on my understanding of how different businesses are run, and learned how to deliver them more leads to boost their return on investment. I coordinated print ad placements and copy for these national corporations, ensuring brand representation/recognition and cohesion in all artwork and print listings. I developed strategies to maximize clients' return on investment, and put these strategies to the test by executing market testing campaigns and analyzing the results. I also planned, prepared, and presented advertising budgets to clients.
